The Living Voice - Present, Powerful, Personal

with Heather Dick


(An Introduction to the Linklater Voice Method for actors, singers, storytellers and directors). NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE with the LINKLATER Method is NECESSARY.


Explore the excitement and power of your natural, embodied voice rich with resonance and vibration. Learn a progression of physical, tactile and imaginative exercises that will help you to become more grounded, alive, present and vocally connected to your thoughts and feelings both on and off the stage. Discover how to release tensions and blocks that inhibit your vocal expression, how to free your own resonant, vibrant, natural voice and how to re-connect it to your primary impulses, desires and emotions so that you communicate more openly, effortlessly and personally.

Overview

Day One: An introduction to natural voice work and the goal of the Linklater method to connect voice

and breath to thought and emotion. Then, apply to text so actors can connect exercises to speaking

from the beginning.


Day Two: A luxurious warm-up that will be a full review of the progression and then work on a variety of

texts.


Dates: May 4th and 5th,

Times: 10:30 to 5:30 pm (each day with an hour off for lunch)

Cost: $60 ($40 for PTG members) per session;

Heather Dick is a vivacious performer, voice artist, director, writer and Designated Linklater Voice teacher, Heather brings energy, joy and a touch of humour to all that she does.

    She has performed in, directed or produced more than 80 shows and is a highly sought-after voice and acting coach. When not working on film, television, commercials or voice projects, she loves the live, moment-to-moment interaction that is an essential part of acting on the stage. As a writer, Heather has been published in two anthologies and is the first place winner of the Joseph Smrdelj Short Story Contest in 2017 and the second place winner of the contest in 2020.

Introduction to Directing Workshop

This workshop if for: anyone who wants to direct, but doesn't know where to begin. You will benefit from Linda's experience as a performer and director. She has appeared in, and directed a number of plays, films and television shows throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Russia and New Zealand.

Time: 1 - 4 pm

Cost: $40 ($30 for PTG members) per session;

Linda Kash began her career at the Second City Theatre in Toronto where she performed, directed and conducted workshops.

    Linda has taught acting, sketch writing and / or improv at Humber College, Fleming College, Laurier University. She has conducted workshops at Trent and Arizona State University. In 2008, she co-founded a Performing Arts School called PAPA for kids and teens. She most recently appeared in the critically acclaimed production of Casey and Diana in Stratford and at Soulpepper." Linda is best known as The Philadelphia Cream Cheese Angel (a successful campaign which ran over 26 years) but her proudest work to date, by far, is her fabulous blended family

Auditioning for and Improving Musical Theatre Performance

with JP Baldwin


This workshop is for: anyone who has never auditioned for a musical, as well as those who want to refine and define their auditioning / performance technique. Participants will learn secrets, shortcuts, tips and techniques that will allow for a more confident presentation. Choose a musical piece with which to audition, bring it to the workshop (a musician will be present) and JP will take it from there!

    He has been conducting master classes for the last ten years, and has performed across the country from Montreal to Vancouver. A graduate of the Sheridan College music performance program, he loves the thrill of working in musical theatre and often participates in productions with the Theatre Guild where he first started to perform. These two sessions will concentrate on Audition techniques and how to improve performing in musical theatre.
